Storm Damage Cleanup

As cleanup operations continue after last night's storm, residents are reminded that Urbana Public Works response efforts are limited to publicly owned trees within the city right-of-way.  Property owners facing tree damage on private land should contact their homeowner’s insurance companies for guidance.  Private storm debris may be taken to the Landscape Recycling Center at standard disposal costs, and additional details regarding operating hours and fees can be found at landscaperecyclingcenter.org. Finally, we urge the public to exercise extreme caution, as downed trees and large branches pose severe, hidden hazards during and after severe weather. Residents should always look upward to spot loose, hanging branches that could fall without warning, and must never approach a downed tree near power lines, as any tangled wires should be treated as live and highly dangerous.
