WORKING INCIDENT 2403 PRAIRIE GREEN DRIVE., URBANA
On October 2, 2026, at approximately 6:20 p.m., the Urbana Fire Department was dispatched to Prairie Green Apartments at 2403 Prairie Green Dr. for a report of an apartment on fire. Engine 252, responding from Station 2 on Philo Road, arrived on scene of an apartment building with smoke coming from the second floor and began investigating inside the apartment building.
Engine 252 crew entered the building and quickly identified the apartment involved. Crews encountered smoke and the sprinkler system activated upon opening the apartment door. E252 quickly extinguished the fire with the majority of fire extinguished by the sprinkler system.
Battalion Chief C220 arrived on scene and established command. Other UFD apparatus arrived and assisted to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
Approximately 20 Urbana Fire Department personnel responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control within approximately 5 minutes of arrival. Crews remained on scene for about one hour conducting overhaul operations and ensuring the building was safe for occupants. The building was subsequently turned over to property management personnel.
The Urbana Fire Department Investigation Team conducted a thorough investigation, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries during this incident.
